Do you have to be a certain age to receive services at Essential Health Clinic?
You do not need to be a certain age to receive confidential services at Essential Health Clinic. Essential Health Clinic serves all people regardless of age, sex, income, marital status, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity. If you are a teenager, Essential Health Clinic staff will discuss with you the importance of talking with a parent or other trusted adult about your situation.
If I am under 18, Do I need permission from my parents/guardians in order to receive services from Essential Health Clinic?
No. You do not need permission from parents/guardians to receive services at Essential Health Clinic, and Essential Health Clinic does not need your parent's permission to provide you with services. However, we strongly encourage all teenagers to talk to their parents/guardians or other trusted adult in the life about the complex issue of sex.
Will I be charged for services I receive at Essential Health Clinic?
When you become a client at Essential Health Clinic, a Client Liaison will assess your financial situation. Once assessed, you will be placed on a sliding fee scale, which means you will be charged for your services based on Federal Poverty Guidelines and your ability to pay. Additionally, based on your income, a client liaison may find that you are eligible for a program that will cover the cost of your services.
Will Essential Health Clinic bill my insurance?
Yes, Essential Health Clinic will bill your insurance, if you want. In order to do so, we need you to bring in your insurance card or a copy of your insurance card. However, different insurers pay different amounts. It may be helpful to call the number on the back of your insurance card to determine what services your insurance will cover. You are responsible for any unpaid portion of your charges. To help you cover this unpaid portion, if you are eligible, you can be enrolled in a cost-covering program even if you have insurance. Your insurance and the cost-covering program can be used in conjunction to cover your services.
How do I know if I am eligible for a program that will cover the cost of my services?
If you are interested in enrolling in a state-subsidized healthcare program that will cover the cost of your services at Essential Health Clinic, our Client Liaisons can assist you with figuring out your eligibility and the application process prior to your appointment. Can I still come to Essential Health Clinic if I have an outstanding balance?
If you have an outstanding balance and are in need of services, you may still come to Essential Health Clinic. We simply ask that you pay what you can, when you can. We consider your need for contraceptive supplies and reproductive health care services essential to your well-being.
Can I still come to Essential Health Clinic if I cannot pay?
Essential Health Clinic does not refuse services to anyone due to an inability to pay. However, we ask that you pay what you can, when you can. Making payments on your account allows us to stay open and continue to provide needed services to people in our communities.
Does Essential Health Clinic accept walk-ins?
It is always best if you can call ahead and schedule an appointment. However, Essential Health Clinic will accept walk-ins, schedule permitting.

Do you provide services for males?
Yes, males can receive services at Essential Health Clinic. We offer condoms, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, and instruction on self-testicular exams, as well as guidance on general wellness.
Do you provide services for the LGBTQ community?
Yes, Essential Health Clinic welcomes all individuals regardless of age, sex, income, marital status, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
What is my client number? Why do I have to have my client number?
Your client number is given to you at the time you become a client of Essential Health Clinic. It is our way of identifying you in our system. You must have your client number for all communication with Essential Health Clinic staff regarding your personal health information. This allows us to keep your information confidential and secure.
Does Essential Health Clinic provide abortion services?
No, Essential Health Clinic does not provide that service. Essential Health Clinic supports a woman’s right to choose when and if she has children. All-options, client-focused pregnancy counseling is offered with our pregnancy testing service. Whatever you decide to do, our staff will provide you with medically accurate information.
Can someone else pick up my supplies if I can’t make to my clinic?
You must have a current prescription, be up to date on your annual exam, and the person picking up your supplies must have your client number. Please note that you will be charged a fee if someone else picks up your supplies for you.
